The dollar index futures contract hit a high of 103.815 at the beginning of January 2017 after rising from lows of 78.93 in May 2015. The index broke out to the upside on a technical basis when it rose above the October 2005 high at 92.53, and the January 2015 peak at 100.38. The target on the upside was at the 2001 apex at 121.29 level, but the dollar reversed and fell steadily throughout 2018 and into early 2018. After the latest report is published on Friday, the historical data tables in Excel can be updated from the Dates tab. Using CQG IC’s XLTS study you can display the historical Large Speculators, Commercials, and Small Speculators data on a chart in CQG. This Microsoft Excel® dashboard has two parts: the top half pulls the forward curves for soybeans, corn, and wheat traded on the CME Globex platform and the bottom half pulls the USDA Crop Progress Reports by date. The USDA reports are issued at the start of April and end in November. The dashboard can pull in reports as far back as the year 2000. The dollar index moved higher by 5.05% in the second quarter of 2018, but commodities prices managed to post gains with four of the six major sectors moving to the upside. Out of the 29 commodities that I follow, 15 posted gains and 14 losses during the three-month period that ended last Friday, June 29. The composite gained 3.61% in Q2 and was 2.28% higher over the first six months of 2018. Last year, it moved 7.95% higher. You may have also noticed that the Excel ribbon, formula bar, and column/row headers are hidden from view. This configuration gives you a less cluttered view of your spreadsheet.
